Slovenian enterprises have garnered international recognition for their creativity and innovation, amassing a total of 98 Red Dot design awards since 2020.
Leading the pack of recipients are established Slovenian companies such as Elan, renowned for their groundbreaking skis and yachts, who clinched an impressive 15 Red Dot awards. Gorenje, a household appliances producer, secured 14 awards for their innovative home solutions. Akrapovič, a manufacturer of high-end motorcycle and racing car exhaust systems, has received no less than 17 Red Dots since 2020. The list of awardees also includes companies such as Fotona, a specialist in medical lasers, Alpina, a Nordic ski boot manufacturer, and Adria Home, a producer of motorhomes. All these companies are well established in international markets. However, the Red Dot design awards also shed light on lesser-known SMEs. Donar, for example, is a regular recipient of international design accolades for its highly original chairs. Wilsonic Design, a specialized design studio working with top Slovenian companies, not only showcased their expertise but also introduced their own product line of wooden toys and nursery decor (ooh noo), earning multiple Red Dot awards, along with the prestigious IF International Design Award and European Design Award. Another standout recipient of both Red Dot and IF design awards is Visioconect, a developer of ultra-low power digital display solutions. As creative design is also an important selling proposition (if not the main one) for many start-ups, we can soon expect many new names on the list of awardees.
