INEA: inSpect for catalytic converters and diesel particulate filters

October 2024
INEA is shaping the future of the industry by uniting advanced technology, knowledge, and innovation to design, build, integrate and maintain turnkey systems that shape and empower modern manufacturing.

Founded in 1987 by the Jozef Stefan Institute, INEA has successfully delivered over 3,000 projects worldwide in industrial automation, digitalization, and energy management and continues to be a trusted solution delivery partner for AVEVA, Siemens, Rockwell Automation, 3DS, and others. Today, INEA stays committed to delivering a well-rounded experience, which empowers customers and their manufacturing processes.

INEA developed and integrated an advanced visual quality inspection system for input or output quality control. The system ensures in-line inspection of every single substrate with non-destructive methods, handling multiple substrate dimensions, geometries and speeds simultaneously.

Advanced industrial vision technology with AI-powered cameras and LED lighting detects optical leaks in DPFs or cell blockage in catalytic converters, as well as geometrical irregularities, such as chips, cracks, and gouges. Deep learning algorithms measure defect depth, area, location, and volume on all surfaces, enabling precise evaluation. The software detects anomalies in real time, leveraging advanced algorithms to identify deviations based on light transmission or reflection and determines the pass or fail status of each substrate.

Due to the system’s effectiveness in detecting defective parts, Mercedes-Benz now mandates that all production lines manufacturing their components be equipped with the inSpect system, defining inSpect system as their supply chain standard.
