Two Slovenian wines won the platinum award in the latest edition of the UK’s magazine Decanter’s World’s Best Wines. Zlata Radgonska Penina Rosé Extra Dry won this year's Decanter's Platinum Award as one of the world's best sparkling wines. The world's leading wine magazine gave the Platinum award to 18 sparkling wines, nine from France, and the rest from Italy, United Kingdom, Australia, South Africa, Spain, and Slovenia. Zlata Radgonska Penina is produced from pinot noir grapes by Radgonske gorice vinery in Northeastern Slovenia, the major Slovenian specialist for sparkling wines. Selekcija Cabernet Franc by the Gašper winery won the platinum award in the category of red dry wines. The winery is located in Goriška Brda, a part of western Slovenia bordering on the Italian Colio region. The owner of the winery, Gašper Čarman, is one of Slovenia’s best sommeliers. A further five white wines and one red wine also won Decanter’s golden awards. The Decanter World Wine Awards is the largest and most influential global wine competition.
