Most of the TOP300 Slovenian companies ended the 2020 pandemic with lower sales, yet most of them still posted profits. Some industries, like pharmaceutical, ended the year very well with both increased sales and profits.

Most of the TOP300 Slovenian companies ended the 2020 pandemic with lower sales, yet most of them still posted profits. The pharmaceutical industry ended the year very well with both increased sales and profits. Krka (TOP 300, rank 4) has been a Slovenian company with the highest net profits for years and 2020 was not an exception: the company managed to increase its profits by 3 percent to 258 million euros. The profits of Krka’s archrival Lek (rank 7) went up by s whopping 21 percent. The largest national retailer Mercator (rank 6) increased revenues by 2 percent. The sales of home appliances maker Gorenje (rank 8) went significantly up since its integration into the Chinese Hisense group: revenues went up from 898 million in 2019 to 1.2 billion euros – that’s almost 35 percent. One of the winners of the last year is also BSH Hišni aparati (rank 23), small appliances producer within the Bosch Siemens group. The company increased its sales by 10 percent.

In times of social distancing, motorhomes sell well: Adria Mobil’s revenues (rank 16) grew by four percent, and those of Carthago (rank 35) by 1 percent: not spectacular growth, yet still a splendid result in comparison to most other companies in the automotive industry. The sales of Renault’s factory Revoz (rank 5) went down from 1.8 to 1.4 billion euros. While some of the automotive companies or their suppliers broke records in sales in the first half of 2021, Revoz continues to operate below the plant’s capacity. The reason: a global chip shortage.

The energy sector suffered decreased demand last year. The sales of the national fuel trader Petrol went down by a third – from 3.6 to 2.5 billion euros. Petrol, however, remained the largest company in Slovenia. In the first half of 2021, sales of Slovenia’s Petrol increased by 9 percent to 1.28 billion euros: meanwhile, the sales of the total Petrol group went up by 20 percent and reached 1.8 billion. Industries like tourism and energy are faceing a modest recovery in 2021. In the automotive sector the situation is varied. Aluminum component manufacturer Impol (rank 10) ended the year with 681 million euros of revenues. This year the demand went significantly up and the management estimates that the sales would reach 726 million. Not quite the 2019 level (784 million), yet a substantial increase.

The new names on this year’s edition of the TOP300 list include companies like medical technology company MD DX which shot up to rank 167 as the best-placed newcomer. Sensilab (Rank 206) produces health supplements and foods. The company sells its product in 40 countries mostly through its own web sales platform. Another interesting newcomer is door manufacturer Pirnar: the company offers innovative smart door systems and reached 242nd place on the TOP300 list with revenues of 40 million euros. Dewesoft, a fast-growing global tech leader in sophisticated measurement solutions, reached 294th place. Another interesting new name is in 299th place: Rem Trebnje develops complex modular prefabricated buildings. We can expect that this company will be placed much higher in the next edition of the list: the 2021 sales have increased by 25 percent over the last year’s figures and that should place the company around 250th place.

Which company present on the previous TOP300 list made the best improvement of its position? Moro and Kunst’s sales went up by an astonishing 244 percent last year. The company gained 157 places on the TOP300 list. Moro and Kunst trades gold: what could offer better proof that we live in troubled and insecure time.
