A delegation of Slovenian transport and logistics companies recently visited Vietnam to present Slovenia’s strategic role as a gateway for goods entering European markets while showcasing their individual services and connecting with various Vietnamese stakeholders.
Slovenia’s transport and logistics sector is vital to the national economy, benefiting from its central European location and access to the Mediterranean through the Port of Koper. This advantage connects Slovenia to Central and Southeastern Europe and the Western Balkans, serving around 300 million consumers.
The delegation participated in three business forums and an accompanying program, where Slovenian companies formed valuable connections with Vietnamese businesses and institutions. Networking in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi proved successful, with a highlight of the Vietnam-Slovenia Business Trade Forum in Hanoi being the signing of a memorandum of understanding between SPIRIT Slovenia and Vietrade (Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency) to enhance cooperation between the two economies.
This visit raised the visibility of Slovenian companies, reinforcing Slovenia’s logistics sector as a competitive option among European providers. Borut Šemrl, marketing director at the Port of Koper, which is one of the ambassadors of Slovenia's business, stated: "Vietnam is a highly interesting overseas market for us, which is why we were one of the main initiators of the logistics delegation’s trip. It has given us the opportunity to inform and raise awareness in Vietnam about the existence of the Port of Koper and its competitive advantages."
Rok Capl, director of SPIRIT Slovenia, emphasised the agency’s commitment to strengthening ties with Vietnam. "For several years, we have led delegations, organised business forums and connected businesses through seminars, export support and trade fairs. With Slovenia’s expertise and strategic location, we see even greater potential. "
Vesna Nahtigal, Director General of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia, noted, "The EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement has been a game-changer for trade relations, reducing barriers and creating new opportunities for collaboration between Slovenian and Vietnamese companies."
This was the largest Slovenian transport and logistics delegation to visit Vietnam and continued the successful bilateral relations between the countries. By leveraging the advantages offered by the EVFTA and Slovenia’s robust infrastructure, there are high prospects for developing dynamic, mutually beneficial partnerships that will drive economic growth.
