Slovenian blockchain company SunContract launched the world's first NFT (non-fungible token) market for real-world solar panels. Each of the tokens in the inaugural series represents one of 2,117 solar panels located in Višnje near Ajdovščina in western Slovenia. Since its start SunContract has been specializing in “seamlessly blending blockchain technology, NFTs, and real-world applications in the solar energy sector”. SunContract’s marketplace is a blockchain based P2P energy trading platform with over 10,000 users that can buy and sell energy nationwide directly without intermediaries. The new token is another step in SunContarct’s vision to revolutionize the energy market. The innovation was introduced at the Crypto Expo Europe 2024 in Bucharest in March, where SunContract won the Blockchain Project of the Year award.
