This year’s edition of the Strategic Forum Bled held in late August under the title “Solidarity for Global Security” attracted a record number of political and business leaders from all over the world. Speakers included three presidents, nine prime ministers, and 13 ministers of foreign affairs from across the globe. The topics were to a large degree related to resilience and strategic shocks. The keynote speaker, the president of the European Council Charles Michel, stressed that Europe is facing unpredictable crises, the war in Ukraine and natural disasters like floods in Slovenia and wildfires in Greece – but solidarity will give the continent strength. Michel also addressed the importance of expanding the EU to the Western Balkans: “We must be ready, on both sides, to enlarge by 2030.” Other topics focused on issues like multilateralism and technological challenges. The forum was launched in 2006 as “a global platform that promotes dialogue and innovative thinking on pressing global issues”.
