The largest and arguably the most well known (at least in the professional world) Slovenian producer of woodworking machines is Ledinek Engineering. Ledinek group with over 400 employees and around 100 million euros of sales develops top notch machinery for various purposes, including surface processing systems, presses for cross laminated timber, and finger jointing, as well as complete product lines.

Mebor is one of the world’s leading producers of machinery for the primary sawing of wood. The company introduced the world's first fully automatic horizontal band saws and is one of Slovenia’s best “gazelles” (fast growing companies).

Gomark develops log splitting machines. Detel Strojegradnja offers multi-spindle dowel hole drilling machines, components, and high frequency machinery. Wravor is another company offering sawmill machinery including bandsaws and circular saws. CNC Stroji sells its CNC machinery under the brand HyperCUT. SIJ Ravne is one of the few producers of softwood veneer laminate knives outside of Japan. TRO, another company from Ravne in northern Slovenia, also offers knives and blades for the woodworking industry.

Overall, the industry is not large. Yet many of the companies share several interesting characteristics. Apart from the knife manufacturers, the companies are family businesses with a very long tradition in woodworking. They focus on innovation and are dedicated to quality. And they sell most of their products outside Slovenia – often all over the globe.
