September saw the launch of the Slovenian Competence Center for Chips and Semiconductor Technologies KC Čip.si. The center will serve as a hub for promoting knowledge, development, and innovation in the field of chips and semiconductor technologies in Slovenia and beyond.

The field of chip development is an important economic sector with significant multiplier effects. Slovenia can make a significant contribution to global development in the field of developing special-purpose electronic chips for niche applications, as well as in individual segments of new-generation chips, such as photonic and quantum chips, and position itself on the European and global semiconductor industry market. The KC Čip.si Competence Center will also play an important role as a hub of knowledge and innovation in the field of chips and semiconductor technologies.

KC Čip.si operates under the coordination of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the University of Ljubljana and partners from the Faculty of Computer and Information Science of the University of Ljubljana, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Informatics of the University of Maribor, the University of Nova Gorica, the Jožef Stefan Institute, and the Center of Excellence for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology – Nanocenter Ljubljana. The center's operations will be funded by the Ministry of Digital Transformation and the European Joint Undertaking for Chips (Chips JU).
