In early February, Ljubljana witnessed the official launch of the Slovenian Artificial Intelligence Factory (SLAIF), an initiative aimed at advancing AI research and innovation. This project is part of a broader European effort to strengthen AI capabilities across the continent. SLAIF will benefit from the upcoming second Slovenian supercomputer, scheduled to become operational in 2027. The new supercomputer will be available to both academia and industry. The Institute Jožef Stefan, Slovenia’s premier research organisation, will oversee the technical coordination of the AI factory. The 123-million-euro initiative is jointly funded by the European Union and the Slovenian government.
