The report published in July is based on 11 stats from the fields of human capital, connectivity, integration of digital technology, and digital public services. Slovenia achieved an overall score of 53.4. The value is above the EU average of 52.3 and puts Slovenia ahead of the nations like France, Germany, or Italy. The index also shows significant and fast improvement: in 2020 Slovenia reached 16th place with a score below the EU average (51.2 vs. 52.6).

Slovenia’s strongest area is digital integration of the economy (9th place). In connectivity Slovenia ranked 10th and in public services 13th. The weakest point is human capital (rank 17) – the nation lags behind the EU average in digital skills of the population. Yet, the share of enterprises providing ICT training is above the EU average.

Going by the individual stats, Slovenia enjoys the strongest relative position in the adoption of artificial intelligence in the enterprises (6th place). Another strong point is the openness of data, where Slovenia ranks 8th. The overall assessment of the nation’s state of digitalization is that “the country has progressively made digital transformation a priority, investing in public policies that stress the importance of technology and digital literacy for a digitally enabled state and society.” The highest level of the digitalization is achieved in Finland, Denmark, and Netherlands, while the DESI ranking places Greece, Romania, and Bulgaria on the bottom.
