Slovenia has successfully secured EU funding to develop a high-performance supercomputer and an AI factory, with the EU contributing €67.5 million to the €150 million project.
Slovenia's project scored 82 out of 100 points, the highest among all applicants. The new supercomputer will be 16 times more powerful than Vega, the existing Slovenian supercomputer, and will support advanced research for both businesses and academic institutions. It will prioritize green transition and biomedicine applications.
The supercomputer will be housed in a data centre near a hydropower plant in Maribor, with trial operations expected to start in June 2026.
