Bitstamp, the world's longest running cryptocurrency exchange was acquired by US Robinhood in June. The exchange was founded in 2011 by Slovenians Nejc Kodrič and Damjan Merlak and was the first cryptocurrency exchange operating with an official EU license. Now the company holds over 50 licenses and registrations in various jurisdictions all over the globe and is perceived as a leader in security on the crypto market. The company has headquarters in Luxembourg and offices in Slovenia, Singapore, the UK, and the USA. In 2018, Bitstamp was acquired by Belgian investors which sold the company to Californian based Robinhood for 200 million US dollars. Robinhood Markets is a financial services company with 24 million customers and 1.8 billion US dollars of revenues.
