NASA’s Artemis III mission, scheduled for launch in 2027, will be commanded by Randolph “Randy” Bresnik, an astronaut of Slovenian descent. Bresnik, who previously served as commander of the International Space Station during Expedition 53, has accumulated over 149 days in space. The Artemis III mission is described by NASA as one of the most complex human spaceflight endeavours ever attempted. It will involve three separate launches using the world’s most powerful rockets and aims to test critical systems of the Orion spacecraft, including propulsion, communications, and operational concepts for future lunar exploration. The mission will also demonstrate spacecraft interoperability through a series of rendezvous and docking manoeuvres involving both NASA and commercial vehicles. Notably, there are four NASA astronauts of Slovenian origin: Randy Bresnik, Sunita Williams, Ronald M. Sega, and Jerry Linenger.
