No. of active population up, share down

Ljubljana, 11 April (STA) - Slovenia had an active population of around 989,000 in 2023, which is 0.3% more than in 2022 and the highest figure in the last decade. However, the share of active population dropped by 0.2 points to 56.4%, Statistics Office data shows. The number of employed persons stayed level, that of self-employed grew by 3.4%, and 9% fewer were jobless.


Last year there were 848,000 employed persons, the same as the year before.

The number of self-employed persons rose by 3.4% to 123,000, while the number of family workers dropped by 3.5% to around 19,000.

Some 38,000 people were jobless, down 9%, with the unemployment rate also decreasing by 0.4 percentage points to 3.7%.

The rate of long-term unemployment, meaning a person is out of a job for at least 12 months, was at 1.5%, down 0.2 points.

There were around 12,000 persons or 1.2% of the active population working part-time, who were willing and able to work more. Two thirds of the under-worked employees were women, and the phenomenon was more common in the eastern part of the country.
