A group of partners, including Novartis, Lek (Sandoz), laboratory equipment manufacturer Labena, and Amcham Slovenia, have launched Biotech Hills, a new business accelerator focused on biotechnology and pharmaceuticals.
In early September, the Slovenian government signed a letter of intent to provide support for the accelerator. According to the Ministry of the Economy “The goal of the joint effort will be to make Slovenia the most attractive destination in Europe for research and development, production and investment in start-ups, SMEs and large companies in this field.”
Biotech and the pharmaceutical industries already contribute around 6 percent of Slovenia’s GDP. The accelerator should stimulate further growth and the government expects that the share of the industry could go up to 9 per cent before 2030.
