Ljubljana, 12 November (STA) - A record low amount of waste per capita, mineral waste excluded, was generated in Slovenia in 2023, as waste per capita dropped by 3% to 1,315 kilos from 2022, the Statistics Office said on Tuesday. The decrease was mainly due to a reduction in the quantities of silt and metal waste.
A total of 1,210 kilos of waste per capita were treated, or 1% less than in 2022.
The amount of total waste generated per capita, excluding mineral waste, fell by nearly 380 kilos over the last decade, while the amount of treated waste remained almost the same.
The recycling rate of municipal waste was at almost 60%, which was 3 percentage points less than in 2022, mainly due to the higher volumes of bulky waste generated.
Compared to 2013, the country's municipal waste recycling rate increased by almost 25 percentage points.
Recycling rate for all types of waste, excluding mineral waste, was just under 75%, or five points below that in 2022 and the lowest in a decade.
The rate of disposal of waste excluding mineral waste was just over 5%, or almost a point more than in 2022 but six points less than in 2013.
