Tourist numbers up by 6% in first nine months

Ljubljana, 24 October (STA) - Some 5.8 million tourists visited Slovenia in the first nine months of the year, up by 6% compared to the same period in 2024. The number of tourist nights also grew by 6% to some 15 million. A total of 737,883 tourists visited Slovenia in September, up by 11.7% year-on-year, the Statistics Office said on Friday.


In the first nine months of the year foreign guests generated around three quarters of all night stays.

Slovenian tourists contributed some 3.5 million nights, down by 0.3% compared to the first nine months of 2024.

Foreign tourists spent 11.5 million nights in Slovenia, up by 8.2% year-on-year.

The most visited municipality was Ljubljana with around 2.2 million tourist nights. The coastal town of Piran came second with 1.6 million nights, followed by Bled with roughly a million nights.

In September the number of tourist nights grew by 10.8% year-on-year to just under 1.8 million.

A total of 132,786 Slovenian tourists generated 378,341 tourist nights, both figures up by 5.6% on September 2024. On average they spent 2.8 nights, staying most often in seaside towns.

In September 605,098 foreign guests visited Slovenia, up by 13.1% year-on-year. Tourist nights grew by 12.3% to just under 1.4 million. On average they spent 2.3 nights, staying most often in Ljubljana, Piran and Bled.

German tourists accounted for 23% of nights by foreign tourists, followed by tourists from Austria, the US, Italy and the Czech Republic.

Most popular were mountain resorts, accounting for a third of all overnight stays, followed by coastal towns with 205, Ljubljana with 17% and spa resorts with 15%.

Tourists spent most nights in hotels at 43%, followed by private accommodation, where a quarter of nights were spent, and camps at 14%.
