Ljubljana, 09 September (STA) - The retailer Spar Slovenija recorded EUR 1.2 billion in gross turnover in 2023, a 13.6% increase year-on-year, while pre-tax profit amounted to EUR 21.6 million, with the operating profit margin standing at 1.97%, the retailer said in a press release on Monday.
The number of purchases in shops operated by Spar Slovenija increased by 7.9% compared to 2022 to 58.6 million, which means that almost 200,000 customers shopped in these shops on a daily basis on average.
While noting the good results, chief executive officer David Kovačič said that last year was marked by high inflation growth, which affected purchasing power.
At the end of 2023, the retailer operated 115 Spar and Interspar shops, 22 franchise shops and nine Interspar restaurants in Slovenia, and shipped more than 11,000 orders through its online shop.
More than 1.1 million consumers had the retailer's loyalty card at the end of 2023, and the number of active cards increased by 6% year-on-year.
Spar Slovenija's market share last year also increased by 0.8 percentage points to 21.7%, and the number of its employees increased by 2.5% to 5,260.
The retailer is 100% owned by ASPIAG Management, a company registered in Switzerland. ASPIAG is a holding company through which Spar operates in northern Italy, Slovenia, Hungary and Croatia.
