Slovenia's deficit at 0.5% of GDP in Q3, government debt drops to 67% of GDP

Ljubljana, 30 December (STA) - Slovenia's general government deficit stood at EUR 89 million in the third quarter of 2024, or 0.5% of Slovenia's GDP, down 0.8 percentage points year-on-year, shows Statistics Office data published on Monday. General government debt stood at EUR 44.25 billion, or 66.9% of GDP, down 4.1 points year-on-year.


Revenue grew for the 15th quarter in a row to EUR 7.64 billion, up by 7.7% year-on-year.

The growth was driven by higher social security contributions, which grew by 14% compared to Q3 of 2023 due to the introduction of a mandatory healthcare contribution. Tax revenue rose by 5.8%.

Expenditure grew by 5.7% to EUR 7.73 billion. Social transfers were the fastest growing category of expenditure, increasing by 15.3% year-on-year. Gross fixed capital formation fell by 9.7%.

Gross debt amounted to EUR 44.25 billion or 66.9% of GDP at the end of the third quarter, down by 4.1 points year-on-year but only EUR 33 million in nominal terms.
