Ljubljana, 24 December (STA) - Slovenia is entitled to some EUR 84 million from the EU Modernisation Fund under an investment scheme for the co-financing of project proposals to step up electricity generation from renewable sources. The funds will be paid out in several instalments, the first of which the country received a few days ago.
The Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Energy applied for the co-financing scheme in September, and a month later the European Investment Bank approved it.
Slovenia will receive up to EUR 84.09 million, the ministry said on Tuesday.
Last Thursday, EUR 29.52 million was paid out to the country in what was the first instalment.
The scheme is aimed at supporting investments in the construction or reconstruction of devices for the production and storage of electricity from renewable sources such as solar and wind energy.
It is not yet known which specific projects will be co-financed under the scheme, the ministry told the STA. Next year they will start selecting the project proposals that will be supported.
Financed by revenues from the auctioning of emission allowances under the EU Emissions Trading System, the Modernisation Fund is a programme supporting 13 lower-income member states in their efforts to meet energy targets by helping to modernise energy systems and improve energy efficiency.
