Ljubljana, 25 September (STA) - Slovenia recorded 1.18 million tourist arrivals in August, 18.2% percent more than in the same month last year, while the number of tourist nights increased by 13.9% to a record 3.27 million, the Statistics Office reported on Wednesday.
Domestic tourists accounted for almost 187,000 arrivals and generated slightly more than 633,000 nights in August, which is 16% and 7% more year-on-year, respectively.
Foreign tourists accounted for slightly more than 996,000 arrivals, or almost a fifth more than last August, while the number of nights generated by them was up by 16% to 2.6 million.
The combined number of nights in August, 3.27 million, is 14% higher than last August and 8% higher than in August 2022, which was until now the most successful August ever.
The largest number of nights among foreign tourists was generated by Germans, almost 524,000 or a fifth of all, followed by Italians (250,000 or 10% of the total) and Dutch (242,000 or 9% of the total).
Compared to August 2023, Hungarians accounted for the largest increase in overnight stays by foreign tourists (34%), followed by Czechs (21%) and Germans (19%).
In the first eight months of the year, tourist arrivals were up 6.2% to 4.79 million, and the number of nights increased by 4.3% to 12.54 million.
Foreign tourists accounted for three-quarters of all nights.
