Slovenia reduces energy dependency in 2024

Ljubljana, 15 May (STA) - Slovenia saw its energy dependency decrease last year, as domestic energy sources met 56% of the country's energy demand, when in 2023 it was 53%, the Statistics Office said on Thursday. Oil derivatives still remained the most used energy source, all imported.

Oil derivatives accounted for 34% of energy sources used, followed by nuclear (23%) and renewables (21%). Coal made up 12% of energy sources used in Slovenia and gas nearly 11%.

A total of 6.4 tonnes of oil equivalent were available for energy supply, which was 4% more than in 2023, the Statistics Office said.

Total volume of domestic energy sources amounted to 3.4 million tonnes of oil equivalent last year, roughly the same as the year before.
