Ljubljana, 27 October (STA/APA) - The share of renewable energy sources (RES) in gross final energy consumption in Slovenia last year was 24.64%, or 0.43 percentage points less than in the year before and 0.36 points below the European target, the Statistics Office announced on Monday.
In the power sector, the share of RES in gross final energy consumption increased by 1.19 percentage points to 43.08% last year, mainly due to a large increase in production by solar power plants (by 28.83%).
In transport, this share decreased by 0.78 percentage points to 9.24%, which is mainly attributed to the consumption of biofuels, which decreased by 4.55% on an annual basis, while the consumption of all fuels increased by 5.1%.
In the heating and cooling sector, the share of RES decreased by 0.64% to 33.66%, with the consumption of wood for heating, which is the main factor in this segment, decreasing by 5.75%.
The consumption of all energy products in this sector meanwhile increased by 0.85%, the Statistics Office noted.
The statistics mean that last year Slovenia once again failed to achieve the target of a 25% share of RES in gross final energy consumption, which is required by the EU directive on the promotion of the use of energy from renewable sources.
The only time Slovenia reached the target was in 2023, when this share stood at 25.07%.
