Ljubljana, 15 November (STA) - Economy Minister Matjaž Han has told the Forbes Slovenija portal that the production of Renault Twingo E-Tech in the Novo Mesto-based plant of the French car maker could bring up to 400 additional jobs to the Revoz plant in the long term and that the state will provide up to EUR 40 million in subsidies for the project.
A memorandum of understanding as a basis for the new generation of the electric version of the Twingo city car to be manufactured at the Revoz plant was signed by representatives of the government and Renault on 24 July.
At the time, it was announced that production would begin in 2026, and that 150,000 vehicles per year will be initially produced.
"We are in constant touch with Renault, and according to the latest information, they are preparing everything that is needed for the investment. We are currently waiting for the required documentation," Han said in an interview with Forbes Slovenija.
The minister revealed that the state will provide up to EUR 40 million in subsidies and that the government has reserved EUR 25 million in the 2025 budget for the co-financing of the French investment.
According to Forbes Slovenija, this means that the total amount of Renault's investment is between EUR 120 million and EUR 400 million, considering that under the law the government can subsidise between 10% and 30% of a company's investment.
The plant in Novo Mesto used to assemble the previous generations of the Renault Clio, Twingo and e-Twingo, with the production of the Twingo and e-Twingo being discontinued this year.
The facility currently only assembles the fifth generation Clio model in a single shift. The memorandum signed in July is expected to preserve car production in Novo Mesto, where 1,400 people are currently employed, in the long term.
