Luka Koper's net profit up by 30% to EUR 20m in Q1

Ljubljana, 22 May (STA) - The group around port operator Luka Koper generated EUR 90.8 million in net sales revenue in the first quarter of 2025, a 14% increase compared to the same period last year. Net profit reached EUR 20 million, up 30%. Cargo throughput saw a year-on-year increase of 7%, shows the company's unaudited report, released on Thursday.


The group's operating profit (EBIT) amounted to EUR 24.1 million, a 36% rise on the first quarter of last year. The company announced that, in addition to sales revenue, higher other income also contributed to the increased EBIT. Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortisation (EBITDA) grew by 23% to EUR 31.8 million.

In the first three months of the year, the port handled 299,712 containers, a 17% increase on the first quarter of last year, and 206,704 vehicles, up 9%. In March 2025, the port set a new historic record for monthly container throughput with 110,810 container units handled.

Car throughput at the country's sole commercial port reached 206,704 cars, 2% below the planned volume but 9% more than in the first quarter of 2024.

Total cargo throughput reached 5.6 million tonnes of goods, a 7% increase compared to the same period last year.

Operating costs in the first quarter of 2025 amounted to EUR 67.7 million, up 8%, and labour costs were up 17% or by EUR 4.9 million.

In the first quarter of 2025, Luka Koper allocated EUR 22.4 million for investments. Major investments included the continued construction of a multi-purpose warehouse for general cargoes, of the 12th general cargo berth, and of a cruise terminal and its building.
