Trbovlje, 12 August (STA) - The iconic Slovenian arts collective Laibach is exhibiting in Zagreb this summer, with the display featuring an interactive sound monolith developed by the software company Dewesoft. Running until 20 August, the exhibition titled Ausstellung! Laibach Kunst: Unternehmen Barbarossa + Assimilator focuses on political and slippery themes.
Laibach has the ability to go from abstraction to pop culture and to the most burning issues of human existence, forcing the viewer to face unimaginable atrocities committed in the name of their fabricated communities, author Luka Ostojić said ahead of the opening at the Lauba gallery in Zagreb in late June.
The exhibition shows connections between Allah and Star Trek, Guernica by Picasso and Partisans' nightmares, and between expressionist painting style and carpets in rural Afghanistan, according to Ostojić.
A focal point of the exhibition is the Assimilator, a cube-shaped speaker that produces sound based on thermal imaging of visitors moving in the gallery.
The software for the monolith was developed by Dewesoft, a successful IT company based in Trbovlje, the former mining town where Laibach stem from.
Head of software development at Dewesoft Sašo Piskar has said that the company developed solutions for high tech companies such as NASA, SpaceX and Tesla, but was also very happy to take on challenges in arts, especially when the call comes from other locals.
