Industrial output down in Q1

Ljubljana, 10 May (STA) - Industrial output in Slovenia decreased by 2.9% in the first quarter of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023. Electricity, gas and steam supply recorded the largest decrease, by over a third, shows data released by the Statistics Office. Output in March was also down in monthly and yearly comparison.

In the first quarter of 2024, the industrial output in electricity, gas and steam supply dropped by 34.5%, compared to Q1 of 2023. Output was down by 1.8% in manufacturing and up by 10.2% in mining and quarrying.

In the intermediate goods, industry output was down by 4.8% and in capital goods by 3.2%, while consumer goods recorded a 0.3% increase.

Nominal industrial revenue dropped by 2.7% compared to the first quarter of 2023. In manufacturing it fell by 3.1%, while it grew by 33.7% in mining and quarrying.

Total value of stock was up by 1.6% in yearly comparison, increasing by 59.3% in mining and quarrying.

In March, industrial output decreased by 5.9% compared to February. Mining and quarrying marked the largest decrease (-15.2%), followed by manufacturing (-3.5%) and electricity, gas and steam supply (-2.2%).

Compared to March 2023, the output dropped by 6.9%. It was down by 26.8% in electricity, gas and steam supply, by 9.9% in mining and quarrying and by 6.1% in manufacturing.

Sales revenue in March dropped by 5.5% compared to February and by 7% year-on-year.

Total value of stocks was up by 0.9% compared to February and by 0.8% in annual comparison.
