Housing Fund gets EUR 100 million capital injection

Ljubljana, 22 May (STA) - The government has recapitalised the national Housing Fund with EUR 100 million in advance of legislation that will secure the same amount annually through 2035 to increase the supply of public housing stock.

The fund is currently working on 17 developments with nearly 2,000 housing units worth about EUR 400 million. The fresh funds will be used for public housing projects in eleven cities including Ljubljana, Maribor, Kranj and Celje, the government said on Thursday.

In 2023 and 2024 the government had supplied the Housing Fund EUR 51 million in fresh capital. "With the EUR 100 million capital hike, we are delivering a new, even more convincing message that the construction of public housing is a priority for us," said Simon Maljevac, minister for a solidarity-based future.

He said the government was working on making public housing more accessible for youths, families and older people around the whole country.

The move comes just a week after the government confirmed legislation providing a systematic budgetary source of financing for the fund in the amount of EUR 100 million per year.
