Farms produce less beef and pork, more poultry meat

Ljubljana, 15 May (STA) - Slovenian farms produced less beef and pork in 2024 than the year before but more poultry meat, the Statistics Office said on Thursday. After a low yield in 2023, the production of honey rebounded, while the production of eggs was down in 2024.


Livestock farmers produced around 43,000 tons of beef last year, down by around 3% compared to the year before. The export of live animals grew by 6% and the import by 4%.

The production of pork dropped by some 3% to 22,800 tons. Export of live animals grew slightly, while import increased by more than 23%.

Farms produced 78,400 tons of poultry meat, up by 2% compared to 2023. Chickens laid 8% fewer eggs or around 396 million.

The production of cow's milk grew by 1% to 591 million litres, while production of goat's and sheep's milk stayed level at 1.6 million litres and 0.7 million litres, respectively.

After a very poor yield in 2023 honey production increased last year to 1,094 tons, comparable to the ten-year-average.
