Energy sector companies dominate Delo's top 300 list

Ljubljana, 24 June (STA) - The list of the top 300 companies in Slovenia in terms of revenue, compiled by the newspaper Delo, is topped by companies from the energy sector, which Delo partly attributes to the high energy prices. On top of the rankings is the fuel retailer Petrol, followed by the power utility HSE and the mission coupons trader Belektron.

With almost EUR 5.6 billion in annual revenue, Petrol is the largest company in Slovenia, which generates most of its turnover by selling petroleum products while also establishing itself as a provider of renewable energy solutions.

In second place is the HSE group, which owns a number of power plants in the country, with almost EUR 5.2 billion in annual revenue. Belektron follows with EUR 3.3 billion.

Gen-I, which trades with the electricity produced in the Krško Nuclear Power Plant, is fourth with EUR 2.9 billion in revenue, and the top 5 is rounded off by the household appliances maker Gorenje with EUR 2.5 billion.

Bojan Ivanc, the chief economist of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, commented on the results for Delo, saying that the "variability of wholesale prices of energy was lower in 2023, resulting in lower profits".

On the other hand, the part of the energy sector that deals with the production of electricity performed much better, as the cost and weather conditions for production in 2023 were much better than in 2022, he added.

The top 10 is rounded off by the drug makers Krka and Lek (EUR 1.7 billion and EUR 1.6 billion, respectively), retailer Mercator (EUR 1.3 billion), gas supplier Geoplin (EUR 1.04 billion) and the aluminium product maker Impol (EUR 1.02 billion).
