Ljubljana, 18 November (STA) - A 20-member Slovenian business delegation arrived in Istanbul on Monday in search of new business opportunities in Turkey. A number of sectors are represented in the delegation, including industry, energy, logistics, commerce, tourism and real estate, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GZS) said.
The delegation will attend a conference featuring Slovenian and Turkish entrepreneurs at the seat of the Foreign Economic Relations Board of Turkey (DEIK).
The conference will put an emphasis on bilateral talks that are expected to explore the opportunities for strengthening business cooperation between Slovenia and Turkey, the GZS said.
The chamber has assessed that the potential of Turkey as a market of opportunities, referred to in the investment promotion and internationalisation programme, is not being utilised and that it is often not addressed directly.
"Turkey's economic potential and growth makes it an important link in supply chains, while its economic development requires a lot of industrial and technological inputs, which is an opportunity for Slovenian companies," it added.
The GZS argues that Istanbul, as the main business hub of Turkey and the broader region, offers many opportunities and a wide range of potential partners for Slovenian businesses.
Turkey is one of Slovenia's 20 largest trade partners, with medications, cars, cargo vehicles, car parts and tyres, petroleum products, paper and cardboard, and medical and industrial equipment being the most represented goods.
Annual bilateral trade in goods exceeds EUR 1.3 billion, with the volume of exports from Slovenia accounting for half of the volume of imports from Turkey.
