Central bank downgrades GDP growth forecast to 1.3%

Ljubljana, 09 June (STA) - Slovenia's central bank has downgraded its forecast for GDP growth this year to 1.3%, down almost a percentage point from its winter estimate, largely owing to the sharp contraction that Slovenia's economy experienced in the first quarter.

Growth is expected to recover to 2.4% in the next two years, the Bank of Slovenia said on Monday.

The revision puts the central bank among the most pessimistic domestic and international forecasters, whose estimates range from 2.1 to 1.6%.

The forecasters are, however, more aligned about longer-term prospects, estimating that Slovenia's economy will expand by roughly 2.4% in the next two years.
