Ljubljana, 08 January (STA) - As many as 53,018 new passenger cars were registered for the first time in Slovenia in 2024, up 8.4% from 2023, of which electric car sales plummeted by more than a quarter. The number of newly registered light goods vehicles meanwhile increased by 11.7% to 8,582, Commerce of Trade (TZS) data shows.
Volkswagen sold the most passenger cars in Slovenia last year for a nearly 15% market share, followed by Renault (11.2%) and Škoda (10.5%).
Broken down by models, the most popular passenger cars were Renault's Clio, Škoda's Octavia, Renault's Captur, Peugeot's 2008, and Škoda's Kodiaq.
As for light goods vehicles, Renault held a 23.7% market share, followed by Ford (19%) and Volkswagen (15.9%).
The top three models in that category were Ford's Transit Custom, Renault's Master and Fiat's Ducato.
Electric car sales saw a downward trend, as the number of newly registered cars dropped by 27% to 9,876 annually.
Of these, 3,142 cars were fully electric, a drop of 38% from 2023. Buyers most often purchased Tesla's model 3 (446) and model Y (390), Cupra's Born (304), MG's MG4 electric (138) and Volkswagen's ID.3 (138).
The number of hybrid cars remained almost unchanged at 3,233, with Toyota leading the way as its Corolla (716), Yaris Cross (573), C-HR (360) and Rav 4 (246) were the four best-selling hybrids. Ford's Kuga (188) placed fifth.
