Average net wage up 0.6% in real terms in June

Ljubljana, 22 August (STA) - The average wage in Slovenia in June amounted to EUR 2,366.79 gross or 1,501.97 net, which is slightly more than in May - 1% in nominal and 0.6% in real terms, the Statistics Office reported on Thursday. Year-on-year, the average gross wage in June was up by 5.2%, and the average net wage by 2.6%.

In June, the average wage in the public sector (EUR 2,214.91 gross) was lower than in the private sector (EUR 2,701.33 gross).

In the private sector, the average gross wage was down by 1.1% in June on a monthly basis, while it increased by 5.2% in the public sector. In the institutional general government sector, which is part of the public sector, it was up by 6.3%.

The main reason for such an increase in the public sector is the adjustment of the value of the wage brackets by 3.36% on 1 June, as agreed by public sector union representatives and the government at the end of 2023, the office noted.

On average, the highest wage for June was paid in the electricity, gas and steam supply (EUR 3,630.28 gross or EUR 2,241.33 net), while the lowest wage was paid in catering (EUR 1,746.26 gross or EUR 1,142.43 net).

In the first half of the year, the average monthly gross wage was nominally higher by 6.5% (3.5% in real terms) and the average monthly net wage was up nominally by 4% (1.1% in real terms) compared to the same period last year.

The average monthly gross wage in the first half of the year was up by 7.6% in the private sector, while it increased by 4.4% in the public sector. It was up by 3.8% in the institutional general government sector.
