Annual inflation in April at 2.3%, monthly rate at 1.3%

Ljubljana, 30 April (STA) - Slovenia's annual inflation rate was 2.3% in April, which compares to 2% in March. The growth was largely due to higher prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages. Inflation was 1.3% at the monthly level with the rising cost of package holidays having the largest impact, shows data published by the Statistics Office on Wednesday.


In annual comparison the prices of services increased by 3.2% and goods by 1.8%.

In April last year the annual inflation rate was 3%.

The growing prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages (by 5.9%) contributed the most or 1.1 percentage points to the headline rate of inflation. Price increases in clothing and footwear (by 4.2%), recreation and culture (by 3%), and restaurants and hotels (by 4.4%) contributed 0.3 points each.

Monthly inflation was pushed up by 0.5 points by higher prices of package holidays (up by 13.6%) and by 0.4 points by prices of shoes and other footwear, which grew by 20%.

Price increases in passenger air transport (by 26.3%), sport, camping and open-air recreation equipment (by 9%), accommodation services (by 5.5%), vegetables (by 4.2%), meat (by 2.6%) and furniture and household equipment (by 1.9%) contributed 0.1 points each to the headline rate.

On the other hand, monthly inflation was eased slightly due to lower prices of liquid fuels (down 6.3%), fuels and lubricants for personal transport equipment (3.1%) and lower prices of non-durable household goods (4.1%), each lowering the inflation rate by 0.1 points.

Measured with the EU-compatible harmonised index of consumer prices, Slovenia's annual inflation in April was 2.3%, which is 0.1 points higher than in March and 0.7 points lower than in April 2024. The monthly inflation was 0.8%.
